Travelling to School

Travelling to and from Evelyn Scott School

There are a variety of transport options for children to commute to and from our school. Walking or riding are fantastic options, as they help to reduce congestion, increase safety and children arrive invigorated and ready to learn. Evelyn Scott School has dedicated lockable bike/scooter sheds for learners to secure their bikes and scooters whilst at school.

Parents driving to ESS are reminded to observe all traffic directions and keep to the legal 40km per hour speed limits on the surrounding roads (Coaldrake Avenue, Bielski Street and Wyndham Avenue) between 8am to 4pm on weekdays during term times.

Our school car parks for the Preschool and Junior campus (located at the lower and upper ends of Bielski Street), have dedicated car parks and pick up/set down areas. The Senior Campus car park entrance (located on Wyndham Avenue) also contains dedicated car parks and pick up/set down zones.  We ask families to observe these designated spaces and not park in the pick up/set down spaces or across any school pedestrian crossings. There is also additional overflow street parking available on Coaldrake Ave, Bielski St and Wyndham Ave. Evelyn Scott School Map

The Transport Canberra website has a dedicated section for schools, which highlights some of the transport options available in the ACT. The bus routes travelling to and from Evelyn Scott School can be found here. The site includes a range of resources and information about the initiatives being delivered to support active travel and traffic management around schools, including:

Encouraging children to walk or ride to school is one of the most time efficient ways for children to receive the recommended 60 minutes of physical activity every day. If you need to drive, please drive safely around the school and obey the road rules at all times.

Learners who catch the bus from school of an afternoon are supervised by Evelyn Scott School staff to safely wait and embark.
