Communication at Evelyn Scott School

Communication at Evelyn Scott School

As we progress into the new year and extend our school to include the Senior Campus, it is important to outline the Communication Strategy we have at Evelyn Scott School. We highly value communication with our families and each member of the Evelyn Scott School Team work hard to ensure that communication is clear and timely. Below is a list of all the ways in which we communicate with you to share important information about your child's learning:

1. Direct contact with your child's teachers - Your first point of contact should always be your child's teacher. Our teachers are dedicated to addressing your child/children's needs and happy to communicate with families. We are very grateful to have such a caring and professional group of teachers at Evelyn Scott School. Staff contact email addresses can be found here: https://www.evelynscottschool.act.edu.au/our_school/meet_our_team

2. Weekly Warbler  - This is a new communication tool we have implemented in 2023 that highlights the important events for the upcoming week. It also includes links back to our calendar and our website. We have already received very positive feedback about this new tool.

3. Newsletters - Our Newsletters are published and sent to our families on a monthly basis. We aim to deliver high quality, vibrant and substantial newsletters that celebrate school events and outline important school information that has occurred throughout the month.

4. Showcases - Showcases occur regularly and are a fantastic way to be involved in your child's learning journey. Our learners really enjoy the opportunity to share their learning with their families via our showcase process.

5. Goal Sharing Interviews - Families are invited to meet with their child's teacher and participate in this important meeting. This is an opportunity to discuss your child's goals and work together to develop a plan to meet these goals. These meetings provide clarity and are a great way to have an open conversation about your child's learning, strengths and challenges.

6. Meetings with members of the Leadership Team - The Principal and members of the Leadership Team (Executive Coaches, Deputies, Wellbeing Coaches and Learning Coaches) are available to meet with you to discuss concerns as required. Please make appointments through the Front Office.

7. Google Classrooms - We are moving away from Wabisabi Zen to Google Classrooms this year. Google Classrooms is a user-friendly and transparent way for families to easily view your child's learning. Whilst Zen was a useful digital app and provided us with the opportunity to develop digital portfolios linked to the Achievement Standards, unfortunately, the developers are not in a position to keep maintaining it. We will simply cease using Zen. You do not need to sign up to any other app, it is already familiar to your children (and I am sure most members of our school community) there is no cost and many other ACT schools use this platform. Google Classrooms and GAFE (Google Apps for Education) is an approved digital platform and will allow families to tap into your child's projects and learning throughout the year.

8. Emails - We frequently email our school community important information. This has been especially important over the past two years during lockdown and COVID related information. We work hard to email significant information home to you as necessary.
